At the heart of Ur Bare is the concept of connection, interpreted across multiple dimensions.

Connection with the past:
This project honors the local heritage by reviving the splendor of the original villa, built in 1945, blending its historic character with contemporary comfort. The architecture reflects a deep respect for its origins while embracing a modern sensibility.
Connection with nature:
The astonishing views of the beach, the Mollari Islands, and the green hills of Mutxio Park are central to the experience. Nature is more than just a backdrop; it is intricately integrated into the design by using sustainable materials, energy-efficient systems, and practices that minimize environmental impact.

Interior/exterior connection:
The spaces at Ur Bare are in constant dialogue with their surroundings. Natural light fills the entire space, connecting the different rooms continuously. The original staircase serves as a central element, linking the three floors and their distinct functions.
Connection with oneself:
Envisioned by a couple passionate about the Basque Country, Ur Bare invites guests to immerse themselves in its natural beauty, cuisine, and culture, fostering a sense of personal well-being.

Nature:
Nature is a defining element of the design, reflected in every detail. The beige tones of lime stucco on the walls, the natural stone floors in both indoor and outdoor spaces, and the oak wood flooring in the bedrooms all evoke the serenity of the landscape. The soft color palette and traditional materials were chosen to harmonize with the peaceful surroundings.
The craftsmanship throughout the hotel is evident, where every detail has been carefully designed with high-quality raw materials, reflecting a commitment to artisanal quality.

Sustainability and a respect for nature drove the design solutions. One of the most distinctive features is a large Magnolia that once crossed the old porch, preserved and now surrounded by a dedicated room on the first floor. Handmade terracotta tiles arranged in concentric circles emphasize its presence. The tree continues its ascent through the lobby, piercing a skylight and ultimately breaking through the hotel’s new zinc roof, merging nature with architecture.

Eclectic confort:
Ur Bare emanates warmth and comfort through its thoughtful combination of elements. Rounded edges, soft linens, and warm plaster textures create an inviting, cozy ambiance. Carefully curated lighting enhances the intimacy of each area, while the use of native plants in pots seamlessly integrates the architecture with the surrounding beach environment, reinforcing the connection to nature.

Goxo:
The Basque word Goxo perfectly encapsulates the spirit of Ur Bare: a place for those who embrace life to its fullest—where eating, resting, living, and connecting are at the core of the experience. It is a refuge designed to inspire and nurture, offering an authentic connection to both the land and the soul.

WHAT WE HAVE LEARNED

The Ur Bare hotel project gave us the opportunity to meet an exceptional family, discover an extraordinary region, and work with a team of remarkable human quality. Among the most cherished memories are the long meals at the adjacent social club, where, amidst conversations and laughter, we worked together to solve the various challenges of the project.
